The head of the Mission of the European Union Delegation in Venezuela, Rafael Dochao, reiterated the bloc’s will to continue supporting human rights organizations and defenders in the country’s border areas.
In a meeting held with NGOs and activists from Táchira State, bordering Colombia, Dochao pointed out that the work of the EU is to support NGOs.
“The work of the European Union financing these organizations and supporting human rights defenders is fundamental and I think we must continue to do this into the future” as he stated in a video broadcast on the EU’s Twitter account in Venezuela.
Mr. Dochao highlighted that at the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the NGO ‘FundaRedes’ in the border state, mechanisms were discussed to “generate dynamics that change in favor of the most vulnerable populations.”
Venezuelan migrants are one of the most vulnerable communities in the midst of the conflict and violence that spans the Colombian-Venezuelan border, and is sponsored by Nicolás Maduro’s regime and irregular armed groups.
