The Presidential Commissioner for the United Nations, Miguel Pizarro, highlighted that UN special rapporteurs exhorted Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship to cease the arbitrary interference against NGOs in the country.
The senior official of the Legitimate Government reported that through a communication, dated November 19th, four UN rapporteurs made known to the regime different considerations about the administrative and legal measures related to the registration, control and financing of NGOs in the country.
Mr. Pizarro explained that the rapporteurs urged to evaluate the regulations in force or now in the approval phase that interfere with freedom of opinion, expression, peaceful assembly and association; participation in public affairs; and protection against arbitrary or illegal interference with privacy.
“The States have the primary responsibility and duty to protect, promote and make effective all human rights and fundamental freedoms, adopting the necessary measures to create social, economic, political and other conditions,” said officials of the UN.
Faced with this situation, Commissioner Pizarro pointed out that the harassment and criminalization of civil society by the regime is increasingly accentuated in Venezuela.
Furthermore, he assured that this communication once again highlights this situation (in Venezuela)and adds to the complaints already made by these organizations.
