This Tuesday the Venezuelan Medical Federation (FMV) denounced that 850 healthcare workers have died in the country due to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
The union said that Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship is violating the human rights of healthcare workers by not providing them with the necessary protection equipment (PPE) to safeguard their lives against Covid-19.
The FMV Executive Committee pointed out that this situation does not only affect healthcare personnel, but also all Venezuelans who suffer the consequences every time they must be treated in a hospital.
The President of the FMV, Douglas León Natera, warned that the healthcare centers in the country operate without biosafety equipment or patient security. He also highlighted that they receive a miserable and impoverished salary, which severely affects the quality of life of the workers, in addition to the constant human rights violations to which they are subjected.
